Comedy

Laughing my way back.

One of the strangest things about depression, for me, was losing the ability to find anything funny. The world did not become sad so much as flat — a long grey corridor with the lights humming. The first real laugh, months in, felt almost violent. Something cracked open.

Specials that helped

I will be writing about the specials, sets and bits that landed for me — sometimes because they were brilliantly stupid, sometimes because the comedian was honest about their own dark seasons in a way that made me feel less alone.

Podcasts for the road

On long, lonely stretches of road, a good comedy podcast is a companion. Two voices in your ears, arguing about nothing, laughing at each other — it has gotten me up more than one climb when music could not.

Laughter is not denial. It is the body remembering it is still allowed to make that sound.
